2005 ONLY “TORCH RED” C-6 TO DATE!!!
Here is a one-of-a-kind: the only 70U Torch Red C-6 ever built and painted by GM. Storytellers say GM painted the 2005 Corvette with the #70U paint code just to see what it would look like. This red hot Vette was to go through the Bowling Green assembly plant with a #27U paint code, but before it was painted it was pulled and #70U Torch Red was put on the car. Bowling Green Corvette Plant Manager, Wil Cooksey, and GM Vice President, Joe Spielman, tell the real story! A document signed by these GM kahunas is in the glove box. It relates what had to happen to get the #70U Torch Red on this Vette. After all this, GM said “no” to #70U and another bright red was used. After using this Vette to demonstrate the #70U paint, GM put the car into the National Corvette Museum. With luck and a nice donation by my family, the museum allowed the ONE and ONLY sale EVER of the Corvette. All other transactions are done by raffle. So I say a big “Thank You” to Wendell and Frank. This is one Corvette I will always cherish.
